Enamels on Silver plated Steel
The top layer of the silver plated steel consists of fine silver. This makes enamelling less difficult than enamelling silver. As silver plated steel is less expensive than either enamelling silver (835) or sterling silver (925), it has become popular with enamellers.
Another factor for its popularity is the fact that there is no fire scale. Transparent colours are very brilliant when fired properly.
Transparent reds, yellows and purples should be fired over silver flux, but for other transparent colours this is not necessary.
